The oldest form of beekeeping/maintaining beehives and collecting honey, was practised in ancient Egypt at least 5,000 years ago. Bees have always played a vital role in our ecosystem.  Bees provide pollination services to over 180,000 different plant species, they help plants survive, and plants: Produce ⅓ of our food supply by giving us numerous fruits, vegetables and nuts which provide half of the world’s oils and fibres such as the cotton used to make clothes and other raw materials.

Physicist Albert Einstein once said that if bees disappeared from the earth, humans would only have four years to live, as food crops would have nothing to pollinate them, Scientists have estimated that globally, 1 in 6 bee species is regionally extinct and more than 40 percent are vulnerable to extinction….. That is why we aim to produce as many bees as possible,

How can you help?

  • By planting a row of flowers in your garden so that bees have access to nectar from March to October,

  • Did you know that pesticides are recognised as one of the leading threats to pollinators worldwide?  Please avoid using any kind of pestidies in your gardens.

  • Get to know local beekeepers like us here at ETHFRA honey and support this important industry.

Bees also need drinking water. Bees often drown in ponds or food bowls, so provide a water source like a bee pond with rock-like protection to keep the bees from drowning in the summer heat (bees prefer murky water with algae)
